If you thought journals and planners were just for adults, you’d be wrong. Many are published for children. The planner above is aimed at schoolchildren and will also help parents keep track of what “little Kevin” and “our Sarah” are up to at school.
Back to School Planner?
Think about what happens at school:
Lessons, reading, projects, homework, teachers, after school activities.
What else do kids need at school?
Passwords, school phone number, books, friends, and so on.
Each of those things could make a page in a back to school planner.
And that’s the beauty of planners!
What else could go in?
Sports kit, music kit, art kit.
As kids move up through school, their subjects get more specialised so more pages could be done.
How Big Can A Planner Be?
As big as you want. Aim for the planner to last a school year which is three semesters.
Subjects and time tables stay pretty much the same through the school year.
I allow four pages for most things, apart from teachers, school information and passwords.
My basic back to school planners come out at 42 pages.
The fancier ones with a coloring design between each section have 68 pages.
It depends on how many topics you use.
Ask your kids what they want in a planner and think about the kind of thing you want to be able to check.
Color or Black & White.
I use color in mine simply because it makes pages stand out.
Adding color images makes black & white pages more interesting.
Images with children playing or learning, blackboards, crayons, chalk, school kit – all these are useful for planner pages.
Make sure the images are child-friendly and don’t go over the top with them.
It’s one thing to have the front cover filled with coloring pencils – it’s not wise for interior pages because it can detract from what the page is for, unless it’s a fun page.
What About The Cover?
Make your own.
I make covers using http://canva.com
It’s free or you can have the paid version and have access to more goodies.
I also make covers using PowerPoint.
I’ve given up trying to make covers with Photoshop. My computer came too close to being kicked through the window.
And that’s all there is to it 🙂
The PDF version of the Back to School Planner is available here (goes to my payments processor).
