This design was done in ColorMandala.com. I saved it, and opened it up in what we’re looking at today…. http://SumoPaint.com.
SumoPaint.com is amazing for making your own coloring pages for free. You know how I like ‘free’!
You can pay about $40 a year to get rid of the ads.
It’s described as “Photoshopping in your browser”. It’s like normal graphics programs with File, Edit, Image, Select, Layer, Adjustments, Filters, View and Help in the Menu bar.
Choose File, Open from My Computer (if the image is coming from your computer) and wait for the image to open in the window.
Sumo Paint Filters.
Open Filters and you’ll see 3D Effects, Blur, Distort, Edge Detection, Light Effects, Noise, Pixelate, Sharpen, Texture, Other Filters and Fractal listed. All have their own drop down menus. The one we’re interested in is Distort.
Distort contains Kaleidoscope, Liquid Waves, Pinch, Ripple, Triangular Pattern, Twirl and Wave Lab. Of these, the one I use most is Kaleidoscope.
You can see bits of the original in there but it’s a different pattern with different challenges.
And this one:
Totally different shape but with similar elements. Do you see why I love this site so much?!
I’ve used the Triangular Pattern filter which comes out with some usable designs sometimes, like this one:
So there you are. If you’d like to see a video of me doing designs like these, here you go:
Now you can get stuck in on your own designs.
Next time we’ll look at making your designs ready for publication. Even if you don’t want to go down the coloring book route, you’ll probably want to print your designs and color them in so you still need this info.
Til next time 🙂
