At last, at 59 years old I can admit I love coloring! How about you? Have you admitted it yet?
If you, like me, have spent many years since childhood longingly looking at childrens coloring books in supermarkets and newsagents, thinking if only you could get coloring books for adults, then you’re in the right place.
What Do You Like Coloring?
I like abstracts and patterns, especially repeating patterns like wallpaper. I like designing mandalas because of the patterns and symmetry.
Mandalas are popular. Virtually every coloring book in the supermarket is full of mandalas.
What if you don’t like coloring mandalas? Um….
In my local supermarket if you don’t want mandalas the other option is childrens coloring books. Oh, dear!
Size Isn’t Important.
Well, unless you want to color a small design such as the thumbnail image at the top, and you’re given a whopping 15 inch design.
The thumbnail image is a tiny version of a 7 inch design. My eyesight isn’t sharp enough for tiny designs.
What do you like? Is size important to you? Why is it important?
A friend said she doesn’t like intricate designs because she can’t always see the difference when another color has been used in a tiny space. She likes to be able to see all the colors she’s used and how they work together.
What Do You Color With?
I use coloring pencils. When I was little, we had wax crayons and coloring pencils. Felt tip pens came in when I was around eight (8). Seems like there are zillions of coloring tools now!
I’ve tried coloring digitally (using the computer mouse) but it didn’t feel right. Part of the fun of coloring is choosing which colors and shades to use, then the act of coloring.
I may only have 12 pencils but they do what I need them to do. I may get more. I may try some gel pens.
What do you use? Have you tried different coloring tools?
Please leave a comment and let us know what you like coloring and what you prefer to use.

I am loving the Prismacolor Colored Pencils right now. They are soft and the color spreads nicely. I alternate with the markers. *sigh* You are right, 12 is not enough. I upgraded to 24 and it is still not enough! I wonder how many I would need before I am satisfied?

Prismacolor are on my ‘to try’ list. How many to satisfy you? Walk away from this path – it leads to “addicted to collecting coloring tools”. One of my friends has 150+…
